FORM = FREEDOM
to Express Thoughts

Students experience how improvisation is similar to writing essays. They learn how "Read, Think & Explain" questions are similar to the "12 Bar Blues"; how Narrative Essay Form is similar to "A-A-B-A" Song Form; and how Persuasive and Expository Essay Forms are similar to "Verse-Chorus" Song Form.

Students reach new levels of understanding mathematical concepts by experiencing how Units of Measurement (Math Subdivisions) are similar to the subdivisions of The Musical Beat.

JazzSLAM promotes diversity as students learn about African, European & Hispanic contributions to this unique American art form.

JazzSLAM is approved by the Broward County School Board and meets Florida's Sunshine State Standards. Broward County's JazzSLAM presentations are made possible by generous grants from The A.D. Henderson Foundation and The Community Foundation of Broward to South Florida Jazz (SFJ) (www.southfloridajazz.org). JazzSLAM's Palm Beach County presentations are funded by JAMS (www.jamsociety.org). JazzSLAM Miami-Dade County presentations are privately funded.
